marc,

as i recall, salmonids are more sensitive to ammonia levels than tilapia &
you might want to monitor TAN levels closely while you get things in
balance.

as for socks, you may find yourself checking for holes a lot of the
time--are other filter or settlement techniques out of the question? a
settlement tower or channel might give you an lower maintainence solution.

you've had an interesting chat w/ron. you might want to compare the two
systems based on load as well as density (quick refresher---density =
weight/volume (kg/m3 or pds/ft3): load = weight/flow (kg/liter/min or
pd/gal/min). it seems to me that salmonid culture tends to rely on higher
densities but lower loading than tilapia culture. just a thought.

I am working with rainbow trout and char ( their gills are extremely fragile
to high TSS), . . .solution I want to try is to control the amount of time
the "waste" will be in the water using a sort of sock/bag. >Marc Laberge

Hi Bob,
Guess you better repost your questions. Sometimes things do get lost in
the rush..
