If you want to send to the entire group, use the address
in the TO line of your message -- check before you
send.

If you want to send to someone personally, just select, copy and paste (from
your edit menu) their address from the post you're replying to -- check
before you send.

I could use some help here from those of you with more "technical expertise"
-- I usually go to my ISP for these questions, but considering the frequency
of posts from new users lately, I think it's best answered on the list.

Somewhere in your mail program menu (in the pull-down sections) should be an
option to send in various formats -- if it's not answered by someone here on
the list, talk to whomever sold you that machine you're using :>) In the
selections should be an option for "plain text only". That's the accepted
format for most email lists, and certainly for this one. It eliminates the
problems caused from sending advanced format messages which will be received
and interpreted differently by members with many different types of mail
programs. This is a courtesy item, and is very much appreciated by those
who have limited space and/or internet access time.

Last item - WHEN replying to a post, PLEASE SNIP (select and delete) all but
the pertinent portions of the previous message - there's no reason to quote
the entire message when replying unless you intend to do a point-by-point
response.

Admin hat off - hope everyone has a great day --- I've just enjoyed a
beautiful sunrise here :>)

Tim, this depends on the the software you're using for your email rather
than the machine it's running on.

If you are using Outlook Express 5 then go to the "Tools" menu, select
"Options...". A box should appear, probably showing some "General"
options. Click on the "Send" tab at the top. One of the options now
available is "Reply to messages in format in which they were sent", if
this is switched on (ticked) click on it to switch it off.

Below this is "Mail sending format". Switch on "Plain text" rather than
"HTML" (you can do the same with "News sending format" if you don't want
to post HTML to newsgroups).

If you're not using OE5, you should be able to find similar options
somewhere.

Hope this helps.

For those who have interests/concerns about biotechnology, Virginia Tech has a
great web site: http://www.nbiap.vt.edu/
Look at the left hand side of the page (the yellow print) and click on the "Web
Sites" link. Loads of information there - American and international sites.
The link (on "Web Sites") to Performance Standards discusses protocols for using
genetically modified fish in research and includes software for a computer
decision-support tool.

Hi Tim,

"Posting" is simply replying to an e-mail that goes to a group instead
of to an individual. You're doing fine as your last note got "posted"
just fine. You might look into getting an Internet for Dummies book. I
found it gave a good overview to most functions and was a good way to
get up to speed fast.
