A web seach on Chinese Water Spinach brought up this web site which

indicates that water spinach is a highly invasive plant undesirable

plant in waterways in warm areas:

The growth statistics for it are fantastic.

Hi to Tom, Paula, Adriana, Dan, and fellow Aquaponikers.

Today, at 1130 EDT, I finished washing 24000 pounds of pea gravel.

And Tom, you sly rascal, never told me how much fun it would be.

For those of you who might be reading this with little interest or plan to

build a system some day that's

TWELVE TONS

Aaaaarrrrgggghhhh. Press on. .....Em

Watercress grows wildly in my system. I have not grown it in some time.

Can't recall the reaction of the tilapia to it when I threw it in the fish

tank,

but as I recall, they ate it all.

Hey, Emmet, I can relate.

The accompanying music might be

"Rocky's Strong Now" as Rocky screams..

"Hey..Adrian...I wanna grow ya some salad and fish"

I have about 360,000 lbs of gravel in my system (give or take a few tons).

My biceps and pects are bigger as a result , but who cares about that

(besides the multitude of aquaponic groupies)..?

I repent.

But aint it fun? Next time...let's resolve to do this with basalt in lunar

gravity!

Makes me envious of the perlite crowd, for sure.

ROFLMAO!!! - Somehow I remember Tom mentioning that the cleaning and hauling

of the gravel for the grow beds was best hired out to "young" men and/or

women as a paying alternative to workouts to keep in shape. Not that you

two aren't young in spirit, but testing your bodies this way should be

posted "filling multiple grow beds with gravel may be hazardous to your

___________". You fill in the blanks based on what hurts the most.

Tom says to look on the bright side---- think of the dollars saved in gym

memberships, the cost of body-building machines or videos, etc. When your

wives start buying you muscle tees instead of pruning shears, you'll know

you have it made.

Then again, we think you're using the perfect media, and it actually only

has to be done once. Gravel is great media for your bacteria, gives you

mineralization for pH buffering and micro dosage addition for your plants

and fish. It's reusable, should not need cleaning ever again, gives your

plants less stress when transplanting, cultivates easily when you change

crops, not to mention the feeling of accomplishment you obviously feel today.

Great to hear from you, and keep us posted on your progress, please.
