the preference to monoculture all male tilapia stems from a desire to 

channel all energy into growth  rather than reproduction.  The males grow 

faster for these species (n.b. there are species where the females grow 

faster than the males).  Co-culturing depends upon matching size, behaviour, 

growth rate, relative densities.
