Well this morning I had the once a month chore of cleaning and breaking down

the filters to scrub. as I waded out into the pool to get the submerged

pre-filters to change out the sponges and low and behold it was full of fry.

This prefilter setup is in one of the experimental 500 gallon ponds stocked

with mix sex Nile Tilapia. Well by adding a sponge prefilter which I change

the sponges out every month ( clean , chlorinate , dry to use next time )

has really cut down on the amount of discharge water ( this system is pure

aquaculture ) . Well after dumping half the slurry on the floor . I was able

to dump the rest into a 5 gallon bucket to dip the fry out of. Well I also

decided instead of just turning a valve and dumping the sump down the drain

, to check it out with a flashlight. Well you guessed it Full of fry , some

of them 1.5 long. Well after dipping water out of the sump to be able to net

the fry and fingerlings , I sure smelled like a fish :). So I now know where

all the fry has been going since I have not had much luck finding any in the

tank. I am really not set up for breeding yet , as soon as I move I will be

set up with breeding tanks and fry separators and all.

Well I am off , just wanted to share some surprising news

I wonder how many fry have gone down the drain in the past month :)

We've grown heaps of parsley in our aquaponic units here. They're a bit

more sensitive to iron deficiencies than lettuce, but other than that,

it's real straight forward and grows great.

Hmmm! I was wondering if it would be economically feasible,to run a drain

line from your tank to mine? I need sump fish fry, or would that be fry

fish? Hey Ron is that what the parsleys for? A new culinary creation,(Sump

Fry Tilapia in a slurry sauce with Parsley).By the way I'd help you move, but

I'm going out of town that week! Good Luck, Griz
