Mike,

I have grown taro ( Colocasia esculenta) as an ornemental in my dirt garden

for several years. While it likes a lot of water, it will, in fact, tolerate

somewhat dry conditions. It is tolerent to anything but frost-- something I

don't think you have to contend with where you live.

There are also several other plants sometimes called "taro". Alocasia

macrorrhixa is one. Xanthosoma violaceum ( Blue Taro or Violet Taro),

Alocasia cucullata ( Chinese Taro), and Colocasia esculenta var. illustris (

Imperial Taro) are a few of them.

All have similar culture requirements.

I hope this helps.

Dave

I doubt that 6 mil polyethylene will be strong enough. We use a minimum of

20 mil. We recently found out that high density is better than low density.

If it is UV treated, it should last longer than 10 years. However, our

rainwater catchment deteriorated after just two years. The material was

inexpensive and had a shiny appearance. It normally has a dull appearance.

Hi, I'm still on the list. I've been to busy to be active on the list.

For now I'm going to unsubscribe with my hotmail account and subscribe with

BMCR@interneeds.net. This will be faster for me.
