Hi,

I know of a grower in Florence, Oregon that is growing Wasabi

hydroponically, but I can not recall the name of the company. There have

been several write-ups about him in the local agricultural paper: Capitol

Press as well as the Oregonian I believe.

If I can come up with the name, I'll post it, but this should give you

somewhat of a lead on someone growing it.

Sorry I don't have more information than that.

I believe Growing Edge did a feature on a wasabi grower in New Zealand

What will you sell me a start of this duck weed for. It may be a little

late in the season but I need to fine a source, I could put it into the

green house.

Thanks John Hays

Jon

I don't need to sell you anything! Tomorrow Sat. I will ship priority mail

a box with some duckweed seed in it. The pond I got this from had almost no

"duckweed" left in it due to the cold temp. but I scooped out a bunch of

seed and I have it in a 30 gallon aquarium in my greenhouse with a light on

it. Will send a zip lock bag with some seed to you. If you feel inclined

you could reimburse me for shipping, if not send me some information on

anything, for I am new to aquaponics.

DOES ANYONE USE A CEMENT TANK FOR TILAPIA CULTURE?

AND DOES SOMEBODY KNOW A DESIGN FOR AQUAPONICS USING ONLY ONE PUMP FOR

BACKYARD USE?

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN

DOES ANYONE HAVE AN IDEA OF A TANK SIZE FOR 500 OR 1000 STOCKING RATE OF

TILAPIA AND RESPECTIVELY THE SIZE OF GROWING BED SUITABLE FOR IT?

Well it depends on several things

1) are you going to add extra aeration ?

2) are you going to go with high stocking rates with injected oxygen ?

The rule of thumb is 1/4 pound of fish weight for non aerated tanks up to

1/2 a pound depending on feeding frequency , temperature , feed type , etc..

That said I just specked out two types of rectangular tanks

3 feet wide X 30 feet long X 4 feet deep = 2692 gallons

4 feet wide X 30 feet long X 4 feet deep = 3590 gallons

now what type of media are you going to grow your plants in

NFT - nutrient flow ( gutter type )

Raft - plants floated on styrofoam panels

Gravel beds - plants grown in gravel in flood and drain

Sand beds - plants grown in sand in either flood and drain of continuos

flow

Depending on media type will depend on how big your growing system will be

Also depending on what you plan to grow will effect how big your grow area

will be.
