Electrostatically.

Here in Hawaii we have the same situation. While CA lettuce is cheaper,

usually about 1/2 is thrown away. So you will probably end up supplying

only 1/3 to 1/2 of what he asks unless the quality is so good they sell

more salads. We actually got a 25 to 45 (depending on the season) percent

increase in the price since so much was useable.

What an opportunity Jim, but what a committment. A number of things

come to mind:

1. 80 cases (I assume 3# boxes = 240 #) is a lot of volume. Is his

80-case estimate consistent year-round or is that a peak number? I've

found that customers generally over-estimate their volume requirements.

What % of your business would this represent? Beware of putting all of

your eggs in one basket. Even if you build in a clause to cover your

up-front investment, who wants to work at break-even? I'm curious what

he's paying per pound now, would you mind sharing that info?

I've been asked to look into growing garlic shoots. Does anybody know

the ins and outs of this? What variety is best, growing methods, etc?

Would like to know sources of "organic" fish feed and would like info on

home-grown fish feed.

Thank you

I've tried growing garlic hydroponically in 4mm volcanic chip. They

grow, but it's not spectacular - I just use them to fill in the gaps

between strawberries.

Despite the heavy, young praying mantis population in the strawberries,

black aphids are a serious pest to the young shoots.
