Hi Bruce
The only thing stopping me is the fact that they own the property on which
the pans were created.

One of my favorites is the "Coffee Coolata" which was marketed by
Dunkin Donuts - the closest translation in spanish is "big fat female
rear end
.". Nice drink, huh?
>A fast food chain here in the states (Taco Bell) created the
"Gordita" (little fat girl) brilliant piece of research, eh? "Would

Odd, no one I know has a clue as to what it means. I'm

"Bring me the filthy Chalupa" referring to an Inca virgin.
As to "ensure" vs."insure", this is a very common error in the US.
Another one, is to confuse "effect" and "affect". One prominent
hydroponic magazine makes this error over and over again in every
issue.

Adriana,
The problem is ever more compounded by a younger generation of writers, ad
copy hacks and editors with a severe lack of not only historical context but
the most rudiment use of the language. We virtually have no rules left to
aid spelling.
To add to the thread of "Kreative" ad copy has been when a Japanese a soft
drink was introduced called, "Calpis." Needless to say it didn't last.
The City of Oakland made every effort to have Ebonics funded as a second
language. I'm still waiting to see a rapper by the name of Ton Def

Gerry,
If I had a shiny new nickel from every time I heard a haole return from
yer neck 'o the woods saying, "Maui, no ka oi" , I'd be rich. Considering
there are only 13 syllables in the Hawaiian language, you'd think spelling
wouldn't be a problem?

Ian,
Sounds like a simple curve with no inflection points. I might be able to
help you with the formula, I can certainly code the VB. Post the
details. I am sure others besides myself are also curious about your

Hi everyone,
I just joined this aquaponics group, and I must say that although I thought
at first that I was in the wrong group I finally saw some people actually
talk about fish! Please don't take this as an insult, I have been enjoying
the conversation! I thought I knew the english language pretty well, but you
guys are giving me quite an education. You guys really sound like an
interesting bunch from all parts of the world.
My name is Dawn and we are up near the Huron National Forest in Michigan.
We aren't actually doing aquaponics yet, but I am so excited to start. We
are waiting to receive our packet of information from S & S Aqua, and I have
been doing lots of research. Before you know it, it will be snowing up here
so it is a bit late for us to actually get a green house up this year so we
are going to do a "test" pod in the house with windows and grow lights. So
far we have access to a 300 gallon tub, so probably will start with that.
The good thing about this plan, is that we will actually try it out a
little before we put a lot of money, etc
. into this project. I am 99% sure
this is what I want to do. We are very rural here, but I am confident that I
can make this work.
My one concern is about tomatoes. I keep reading that growing tomatoes you
have to add nutrients. Do any of you guys grow tomatoes only with your fish?
Also, is there some way to determine per gallon how many fish, and what
amount of plants it will support?
Sorry about the long message, just wanted to introduce myself!
Warmly,
Dawn

Hi (a little comedy here),
(on the truthful side) Another one of my pet peeves is the pronunciation of
the word"harass". (Hope I have that spelled right.) For years, decades, etc,
it has been har ass'. With the accent on the last syllible. But, all of a
sudden, since "what's her name" sued judge "what's his name", it has become
har' ass
.with the accent on the first syllible. Drives me nuts.
But, do you know why Bill Clinton kept failing the spelling test? He kept
insisting that "harass" was two words. (Get it? Get it?)
And, I'm still trying to understand how you "axe" somebody something. Down
South, if you had to "axe" somebody, they were dead meat.
Just a little levity
.Steve

Hi Ya'll (vs. uall
ya'll is actually the correct spelling
Sorry,
couldn't resist that
.heh
.heh
. :) )
I have a little p.s. to Andrei's post. (This is for "newbies".) Don't make
the mistake that I made and think that, "Oh Boy, .5 lb/gal means that I can
stock 1,000 fingerlings in a 100 gal tank
.that only works out to .5
lb/gal. (These numbers are for illustration only
.I know the math isn't
correct.) That ".5 lb/gal" refers to final growout weight. Example: A 1,000
gal tank will support 500 lbs of fish (theoretically)
.or only 250 2#
fish. I LEARNED THIS THE HARD WAY!

Half a pound per gallon is an average number that seems to work for most
controlled environment setups. . There are experiments
indoor that have gone higher than 0.5 pounds per gallon, but those are
research type setups where fish are coddled daily by the lab assistants. In
real life 0.5 pounds is great if you can maintain it.

Re: Aquaponic Tomatos
No Carolyn,
Not aquaponic. I didn't have much success with these.
They will be greenhouse and probably not heirloom. I have a unique set-up.
Would love to chat with you off list and see what you think.
And, besides that, I have enjoyed your posts in the past so you can "stick
your nose in my business anytime that you like".
I am Steve 'at'

Wow, the digest version of the list is so big, it's like drinking out
of a fire hose! Anyway, I believe I read a day or two ago that Steve
is planning/hoping to raise *heirloom tomatoes* in the winter in
Wisconsin. Is that right? It sounds like a risky venture to me
!!!I apologize in advance for sticking my nose into your business!!!

To Steve and others
I have noticed that one group of fry in a net tank just in front of me
will be always steady and calm when I come to feed them, coming
immediately to feed, whereas the one behind them will always seem to
flit and school immediately.
Is there a scaredycat in the group who gives an alarm
or what??
Why do these school and the others not?
ANy explanations?
